GIS & Geospatial Services

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has evolved over the years to become an essential tool in project design and development. The benefits of geospatial analysis are increasingly recognized across a range of different industries. The use of geographic information has become an irrevocable part of today’s society.

Shoener Environmental delivers high-quality GIS products and services in a timely manner at a reasonable cost. We have the technical skills and professional experience to offer a variety of GIS services. Our services range from creating easy to read maps that display geographic information, to creating sophisticated spatial analyses.

Examples of our GIS Services:

Mapping

Visualization through mapping has become an essential way to communicate especially in today’s society where individuals are remotely working together. GIS is a powerful tool to help people visualize large amounts of spatial data by creating and combining layers into customized maps and/or datasets. We also have the ability to create and display data, currently only available on paper hardcopy, in a spatial dataset. Some examples of geographic layers that can be included in a customized map are:

  • Species Habitats
  • Soils
  • Land Ownership
  • Wind Data
  • Wetlands
  • Topography
  • Geology
  • Land Features
  • Transportation
  • Aerial Imagery
  • Parcel Data

Spatial Modeling and Analysis

Analyzing geographic data allows you to layer several datasets to derive new information. Among other items, the new information can be utilized to uncover spatial relationships and build spatial models. For example, this data can be used to determine what areas are suitable for a variety of projects and developments. Spatial analysis is also able to illustrate:

  • Slope
  • Topography
  • Viewshed
  • Solar Radiation
  • Suitability modeling
  • Surface analysis

Windfarm Modeling

With the use of windfarm modeling and GIS software, Shoener Environmental can also offer specific modeling geared towards potential wind farm projects. With this software we can create photovisualizations, where the proposed turbines are super imposed on real life photographs to give the public a glimpse into what the built windfarm may look like. This software allows us to:

  • Develop Photovisualizations
  • Calculate shadow flicker
  • Determine how many turbines are visible from specific locations
  • Determine zones of visible influence

Global Positioning Systems (GPS)

Using GPS technology can significantly reduce the amount of time that is generally required of other conventional surveying techniques. We have the capability of providing GPS services that correlate with our ecological services to identifying the locations of utility features. Examples of our GPS services include:

  • Parcel boundary line and property corner location
  • Acreage calculations for timber typing
  • Endangered and threatened animal species habitats
  • Delineated wetland boundaries
  • Rare plant species and communities
  • Existing and preliminary trail and road locations
